After you surrender the keys to your old apartment, sometimes your landlord can continue to be difficult. The Texas Property Code has requirements regarding the return, deductions, and withholdings of your security deposit. If your landlord has wrongfully withheld a security deposit, you may be able to have your attorney fees paid by your landlord. To better understand your case, you should consult with an attorney.
Important information to bring to any consultation includes the date that you turned in the keys to the property, pictures and/or videos of the conditions of the unit when you left, the amount(s) that you owed or that your landlord claims that you owed when you moved out, any court case information, and any communications from your landlord regarding deductions or reasons for not returning the deposit.
